Overview
Shannon Airport was the world’s first Duty Free shopping airport and has a long history of innovation and change in terms of its Transatlantic and European flight connections. From the earliest years of transatlantic aviation Flyingboats landed on the nearby Shannon river, often after a long and usually arduous crossing from the USA. Today things are very different and with Shannon having the best of modern facilities as well as being one of the very rare airports able to offer pre flight immigration clearance to the US, the passenger experience is miles more pleasant.
When a new airside food and bar area was being designed, Vogl Ceilings of Germany were approached by Denise Ryan of Luxembourg based Fineline Interior Design. Vogl were commissioned to create Denise’s design for a ceiling that would give efficiency and comfort whilst forming a harmonious, atmospheric environment.
As a long serving partner with Vogl in Ireland, they contacted SDG for support and to supply the Vogl products for this project. It was a very tight time scale with only a two-week window to get the total works complete. SDG prides itself on their service and were able to deliver the products on time and to the specification required.
Lighting, form and acoustic comfort were the essential elements required to create this calm oasis which is so welcome in any busy airport departure lounge. Vogl Acoustic Designer ceiling systems were used to create this effect. With the Vogl preformed elements Paramud Bros saved a lot labour time on site. This was the first time Paramud Bros had used the Vogl Falt Fix system and they were very impressed with the system and the quality of the product.
